Three Areas That An MBA Can Be Used In After Graduation

2010-11-17

The Master of Business Administration (online MBA) is still very much in demand in the working world. This degree prepares the graduate for leadership positions in any business setting. The type of leadership position that a person with an online MBA can hold would be Chief Executive Officer, President of Marketing, vice President of Yield and Revenue Management, Director of Yield and Revenue Management, Chief Financial Officer, Chief Information Officer and Business Manager of a variety of categories to name only a few more well known and sought after MBA areas.

The financial industry is the highest paying for the MBA areas to begin work during the degree program. Often, an MBA student can secure a summer paid internship in a financial institution. There are also associate MBA positions that are tailored for the recent MBA graduate. This track in New York City typically has a starting pay of $90,000 to $105,000. The work schedule is brutal and the demands of the job are high. Being a multi-tasker extraordinaire is part of the job description. Being a wizard with all financial software and MS Excel is a given.

In the airlines industry, the starting pay is not nearly as high, but the flight benefits can make up for the lack of financial height, placing new hires high above the clouds whenever there is time to take a trip. The job of Pricing and Revenue Management Associate will be the first step up the ladder of becoming an executive in an airline's pricing department. Working in this area in smaller airlines first and then with valuable experience it is quite possible to move up the ladder and around the country from Reno based and privately owned Reno Airlines up to Dallas based American Airlines' Yield Management Vice President and even Director, should the current one resign. As mentioned before, this job will have to be compensated in the clouds to start but then after gaining a few good years of experience, there is every possibility of earning well above the$100,000 range, as long as the responsibility is not too weighty.

Still, the highest paid MBA areas rest in the Wall Street and Chicago based financial industry. This would be the area to target if those zeros need to be into the millions for the annual salary, with perks such as stock options and the golden parachute. Another very lucrative area of the MBA is the Chief Information Officer. A Bachelor of Science in computer science and an MBA would prepare a graduate to be CIO of a large software developer or a company such as Hewlett Packard Sprint, Microsoft, Apple, Verizon and the list goes on.
