Knowing How Long It Will Take To Get An MBA
2010-08-18
Getting a college degree can be stressful, but in the economy you live in, it might be your only choice! Due to this many people are choosing to earn not only their Bachelors degree but their MBA degree as well. If you are one of those people you will first want to consider how long earning an MBA will take you. This will all depend on the program chosen, which could quite possibly be confusing. The good news is there are resources out there to help and as long as you set goals to start, you shouldn't have any trouble making your choice.
The first step in obtaining an MBA degree is to first get your Bachelors degree. This is the most time consuming portion of the entire process because no matter where you go, this degree typically takes 4 years. There are ways in which to speed this up however, such as taking CLEP tests in Math and English. These tests ensure you already know the material and can move on to the next level. To speed up your beginning 4 year degree, you can also attend your university year round, taking summer classes. Sometimes the curriculum offered in summer is limited, but generally there is something for everyone.
Once you have your Bachelors degree you are one step closer to earning an MBA. Hopefully while focused on your studies the first three to four years will fly by. There is a chance that the university you are attending has an MBA program and you can simply continue your education without transferring. Typically something like this will take another two years on top of what you have already done. Occasionally however, whether transferring or staying put, many schools offer different types of MBA programs. Two years is a standard for someone who is attending school full time and committing themselves fully to their degree. This cannot always happen for everyone, so if attending part time, three to four years can be expected for your MBA. Some schools offer accelerated programs for those who want to get it done fast, and this could possibly take you less than two years.
Before choosing an MBA program it is important to research as much as you can before committing. This is only if you are transferring to a new school. Sometimes staying where you obtained your Bachelors is the easiest thing. Use your resources such as the internet and visit college campuses. Earning an MBA doesn't have to be hard, if done right it can be fun and rewarding as well.
