How To Find A Reputable Online MBA Program Of Study

2011-01-11

Getting your MBA can help advance your career opportunities, and thanks to today's technology, you can acquire your degree online. But how do you find an online MBA program that is a reputable program?

To avoid the pitfalls of signing up for a program that may not be what it claims to be requires a little bit of research and time. It is important to make sure that the online MBA program you are applying to will teach the same curriculum that a traditional MBA program teaches, as well as put the same importance and emphasis on the online program as they do on their in person program. Remember you are going to be investing a lot of time and money into to obtaining your MBA and finding a reputable program will ensure that your money and time are not wasted.

As you do your research, first consider looking into colleges and universities that you are already familiar with, and who offer a standard and established course already. Make sure to compare their online courses against the standard courses. Are they weighted the same? Do they utilize some of the same professors? Is there anything missing?

If the university does offer an online program, make sure that is an accredited program. The most common accreditations include the AACSB and AMBA. Besides the program being accredited, also check that the domain name ends in .edu. This domain ending also identifies the school or program as being accredited.

Another great way to find a reputable online MBA program is through recommendations. Do you know anyone who has already completed an online MBA course? If your job offers tuition reimbursement, inquire about programs that might already work with. If you've found a program online you like, ask if you can speak to current or past students about the program to get an honest prospective.

It is also important to consider the cost of the program. Is the online cost higher or lower than the standard course? If this seems to be the case, consider another program or contact the online program to find out their reasoning, especially if the course offerings seem to be the same. Just because the classes are online doesn't mean the education and instruction you receive should be compromised.

Once you've narrowed down your choices, do a little more research about the graduation rate, as well as the job placement for graduates. Find out what is the perception that each school's online MBA program has in the outside world. Better known schools will provide better programs and a better chance of improving your career outcome once you graduate.
