Controlling The Costs Of An Online MBA

2011-01-18

An important aspect to consider when choosing an online MBA program is financial burden. While the rewards to your career and salary after you obtain your new degree will probably far outweigh how much you pay for your degree, the online MBA costs should still not overwhelm your budget. Nor should the online program cost more than the traditional MBA program.

The average cost for an accredited online MBA program is between $22,000 and $32,000. Some programs exceed this cost, but if you keep in mind the average and your budget, you can make a more educated choice in choosing the right program. Just because a program costs more does not mean it is always the better program. A program that costs less can still provide the same course structure, support and benefits.

One way to control online MBA costs is to first look at schools in the state where you live. Public universities offer lower costs for students who qualify for in-state tuition. While private universities can cost significantly more--up to $100,000--public out-of-state universities can cost you double or more of in-state tuition.

Another great way to control online MBA costs is by asking someone else to pay for it. Many companies offer tuition reimbursement or will even sponsor your MBA program costs. So before you sign-up for a program, talk to your boss or human resources department to find out how your company tuition program works or what you need to do to get the most benefit out of it.

If your company does not offer tuition reimbursement and cost is a concern, it might be time to consider other options, such as scholarships, student loans, federal financial aid or grants. If you are not sure where to start, contact the institutions you are interested in to find out what kind of financial aid or scholarships are available toward the MBA programs they offer. Many universities have departments which are dedicated to helping students obtain the financial aid they need or at least pointing them in the right direction.

You can also do a little research online to find out more about the different loans or grants available to you. Look up networking groups or business associations in your area that offer scholarships or grants to students, including women and minorities, interested in pursuing an online MBA.

Taking on a huge debt can be a daunting task, but it does not always have to be this way. There are options available to help students looking to further their education and career opportunities. By investing a little time, you can find the financial help you need.
